Suzuki Gixxer: Why It’s An Important Product For Suzuki India?

The Suzuki Gixxer has been a big name in the Indian sub-200cc segment. Despite the competition being a little too hard in this segment, the Gixxer has been a Suzuki India’s perfect answer to the rivalling Honda Hornet, TVS Apache RTR 160 and the Yamaha FZ. It had caught up with the expected sales of the company later than what was anticipated. But once it did, it has turned out to be one of the top-selling bikes in the segment.

But the sales figures aren’t everything Suzuki Motorcycles India Pvt. Ltd. is looking at while analyzing the significance of the Gixxer as an international model. After the domestic sales took traction, the company started exporting the India-made Gixxer. And guess what, since the start of this year, Suzuki India exports the motorcycle to Japan, which is the mother hub of the company. This makes Gixxer the company’s first India-made motorcycle to be exported to Japan.

The Suzuki Gixxer is a naked-design motorcycle with a 150cc engine under the hood. It gets a very aggressive styling language which is evident by the sculpted fuel tank, small tank cowl and a low swung handlebar. The rider’s seat isn’t very high but the pillion seat is. It has, however, a single seat cluster which does not split in the middle. The exhaust is chunky and attractive too.

Being a naked motorcycle, the rear wheel is suspended over monoshock spring while the front wheel gets the usual telescopic fork. The braking section is looked after by disc brakes in the front and drum at the rear. However, the chunky 140-rection rear tyre offers superior road grip and performance. The mechanism

The Suzuki Gixxer is powered by a 155cc single cylinder engine with a carburetor fuel delivery system. It can produce up to 14 bhp of maximum power and 14Nm of highest torque. The power is sent down to the rear wheel via a chain-driven 5-speed manual gearbox unit.

It has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres and can offer a maximum mileage of around 50 kmpl. The regular mileage lies somewhere around the 45 kmpl mark.

The Gixxer isn’t the sole motorcycle under its branding as the company had introduced the fully-faired version of motorcycle too, in the form of the Gixxer SF. However, the sporty version is powered by the same engine but makes slightly better power than the naked version.

The recently-launched Suzuki Intruder too uses the same engine as the Gixxer, thereby, increasing the significance of the specific 155cc, single cylinder engine in India.
