Problems With Stryker Rejuvenate Hip Replacement Systems: Are You Affected?

Many people have improved their lives with hip replacements, and when you go through with a hip replacement surgery, you naturally assume that the doctor is using replacement systems that are quality-made and will work well for you in improving the way you walk and move after your surgery.

However, it has recently been found that a certain type of hip replacement has been dangerous for those who have received the implants. The company Stryker used their Rejuvenate and ABGII hip replacement systems for many years with relative success. But in July of 2012, the company issued a recall for its hip replacement systems. This was because the implants used with the Stryker Rejuvenate and ABGII hip replacement system were resulting in joint dislocation and were prone to corrosion as well as the release of metal ions. The metal ions have been linked to tissue inflammation, metallosis, and necrosis.

Before July of 2012, over 30,000 hip replacement systems by Stryker were used in hip replacement surgeries. This number represents the number of Stryker hip replacements performed around the world, but two thirds of those surgeries or 20,000 of the surgeries were performed in the United States.

Lawsuits Against Stryker

Naturally, Stryker decided to recall their hip replacement systems because of the negative effects they were having on patients. Still, more than 100 lawsuits have been filed against the company, which is located in Bergen, New Jersey.

In past years and decades, there have been other lawsuits filed against hip replacement product companies because of problems with the replacement systems that appear years after installation. However, these recent lawsuits against Stryker Rejuvenate are the biggest in history. In fact, the medical device failure of these systems are the biggest in history.

Other hip recalls and failures are because of the specific metal parts located on the installed parts. For the Stryker Rejuvenate hip replacement systems, however, there is no metal interface between the company and the ball which creates the false joint in the replacement (this was the main problem with the other products). Instead, micro motion of the metal joints inside the Stryker replacements were causing metal debris to be released within people’s bodies.

Are You Affected?

If you have recently had a hip replacement using the Stryker Rejuvenate products described above, see your doctor as soon as possible to learn whether the negative ramifications that have happened to other patients are happening to you. It is essential that you contact medical professionals as soon as possible so that if these problems are harming you, you can take care of them right away.

In addition, if you have seen negative medical consequences from the use of Stryker hip replacement parts, you should speak with a lawyer about filing a suit and compensation options. The medical ramifications of this product failure and recall can cause high medical bills, loss of wages, and much pain and suffering. You may deserve compensation.
